Third Place Bar
Third Place Bar NYC is a series of alcohol-free pop-up bar events in New York City founded by Sam Bail in late 2022. The goal of Third Place Bar is to provide an environment for people to socialize and connect without feeling the pressure to drink - whether they’re just not drinking for the night, taking some time off, or are on a longer alcohol-free journey.
The “Third Place” is an idea first coined by the sociologist Ray Oldenburg to describe those places, outside of work or home, that foster social connections - read more about the concept and the idea behind the name in our first blog post.
Since its launch, Third Place Bar has hosted over 50 social events in New York City, such as trivia, movie nights, brunch, dating events, and live music. See our events page for a list of upcoming events in the city.
Third Place Bar has also successfully collaborated with brands and businesses in New York City, including Proxy and Shopify, Met Through Friends, Modern Love Brooklyn, Talea Beer, Continuum Club, and Playwrights Horizons.

I am a Data Engineer & Analyst with over a decade of experience in designing data platforms, building and leading engineering teams, fostering developer relations, and forging strategic partnerships. As the founder of Third Place Bar, I host alcohol-free pop-up events to create more inclusive social spaces. Since launching in 2022, I’ve produced numerous events, partnered with leading non-alcoholic brands, and shared insights on the sober curious movement and the business of non-alcoholic beverages across various platforms such as podcasts, blogs, media outlets, and conference panels.
